Tres Jolie Kit Club–December Mixed Media-Dressform

Hey, All! Welcome back to my Blog!

For my third project using the December Mixed Media Kit, I altered used some paper from my stash with the mediums and drywall tapes from the kit to create a décor dressform! (Dressform Cut File from svgcuts.com)

Can you believe this wasn’t my original plan? I had thought to alter a pencil box to make it look like a treasure chest! Things didn’t go according to plan, and I had to adjust! You can see the transformation in my YouTube video!

Video:

Even though I hadn’t planned on making flowers, I am in love with all the texture the drywall tapes impart! (All of the glue and gel hadn’t had time to dry fully & become transparent yet when I had to take the photos!)

My main flower is actually made from the Tim Holtz “Jumbo Tattered Pinecone” Bigz Die and the rest of the flowers came from the Time Holtz “Tattered Florals” Bigz Die.

In this picture of the back you can really see the beautiful lace I used as, more or less, the bodice of the “dress.” I am so glad I hoarded that lace for so long!

Tres Jolie Kit Club–December Mixed Media Kit-Top Hat

Welcome back to my Blog! Although it wasn’t intentional, I completed four projects this month! The rice paper I used here was misplaced at the beginning of the month, and was put away in the wrong spot! I think it statically adhered to the plastic of the Cards, Tags, and More Kit’s patterned paper. That being said, once I realized it was “missing,” I already had three projects completed, but I still had this rice paper, so I created a winter top hat!

This little hat stands approximately 3-3/4” tall and is made sturdy using some chicken wire “ribbon.” That’s the only way I know how to describe the wire!

On the front I used some ReneaBouquet’s Beautiful Board Snowflakes from my stash, sprayed with the two Lindy’s Gang Moon Shadow Mists from the kit, and attached them with some heavy gel medium!

Video:

Here you can see where I used some of the “Crazing” medium from the Tim Holtz collage medium set in this months kit on the outside of the hat, which I then sprayed with the “Gossamer Gold” Moon Shadow Mist!

Two other touches for this piece were two small cabochons for the “buttons” on the hat and some glitter ribbon around the base!

In addition to items from the December Mixed Media Kit (in the following photo), I used:

Silhouette Design Store “Mourner’s 3D Top Hat” (ID #67665) Assembly Instructions for "Mourner's 3D Top Hat"
Silhouette Cameo 3, Nicapa Mat, Premium Blade, ReneaBouquets Beautiful Board Snowflakes, AC Glitter Ribbon, FabriTac, JudiKins Diamond Glaze, Liquitex Super Heavy Gloss Gel, Art Glitter Glue, Spellbinder Tool n One, BEST 1/4” double sided tape, Tim Holtz Mini Snips, and Ranger Brayer

Tres Jolie Kits–December Mixed Media Kit-Canvas

Hey, all! I’m up on the blog today using the December Mixed Media Kit! For this project I used the canvas, mediums, stencil, and drywall tapes from the kit!

I don’t often work with realistic images, but I really do like the print on the Stamperia line! I layered the rice paper over the matching patterned paper, and one eye didn’t quite line up right, but, to me, I think it gives an other-worldly vibe!

Process Video:

Here you can see some of the crazing effect, as well as a closer look at the TCW stencil with the Lindy’s Gang, “Treasure Island Aqua,” Moon Shadow Mist.

I layered the paper and rice paper from my stash with the mediums and drywall tapes from the kit to create a very vintage, very aged effect.

November Tres Jolie Kits - Mixed Media–Pumpkin Stack

Hello everyone! I’m up on the blog today sharing my pumpkin stack that I created as one of my Guest Design Team projects for Tres Jolie Kits, using the November Mixed Media Kit!
I loved the turquoise, Inka-Gold paint from Viva Décor that came in this months kit! It has a nice, smooth paste-like consistency, that can be put on with your finger or a brush straight from the container! Or, you can do as I did, and add some to a misting bottle with some of the Prima® Silver Mica Powder, also found in the November kit, and make your own shimmer-y, glimmer-y mist! I used my homemade mist on the flowers.

Watch me here:

One of my favorite product types in the mixed media world is any type of “crackle” product, so I was more than happy to see the bottle of DecoArt® Media™ Crackle Paint in the November kit, and I couldn’t help but put a nice thick layer on my pumpkin stack after coating it with some clear gesso.
After my crackle paint dried I added some of the turquoise paint, trying to create an Ombre effect on the pumpkins. I then used a mesh/net bag (that the little pumpkins came in) to wrap the stack, using some jute twine at each layer.
I let my homemade mist soak into my flowers some, then, after they were dry, I used some gel medium to attach them to the pumpkin stack.

For the finishing touches I added some sisel fibers for some added texture, and finished them off by brushing on some Glossy Accents and a sprinkling of the glitter from this months kit!

Origin (Canvas) - MTW Sept. 2019

Over on the More Than Words Challenge blog this month we were tasked with finding inspiration from the word "Origins" and using the colors of our country. I love genealogy, so for me "Origins" is "where did I come from?" I love seeing faces of people I never knew and finding some resemblance!

For this project I used a photo from Ancestry.com of my great-great grandparents and eight of their ten children and maybe a grandchild (the youngest being held). Based on records on Ancestry.com, this photo is over 104 years old. (The youngest girl passed away in 1905 at only 12 years old.)

I chose this photo for this project for a couple of reasons. First, it is representative of the Cherokee I have in my family history. Besides the red, white, and blue of the United States, I (tried to) incorporate the colors of the flag of the Cherokee Nation, orange, yellow, green, and black. The following is from Cherokee.org's FAQ page regarding the flag and seal:
The seal of the Cherokee Nation was created by an executive Act under Chief Lewis Downing in 1869. The Act calls for the seal to contain a seven-pointed star inside of a wreath of oak leaves, symbolizing the eternal flame of the Cherokee people. The star is not designated to point a specific direction, but in the original version from 1869, it rests on a single downward point. The points of the star represent the seven traditional Cherokee clans. Within the rings of the seal, the words Cherokee Nation, September 6, 1839, are included, recognizing the date of the signing of the first Cherokee Nation Constitution after relocation to Indian Territory, as well as the date of the Act of Union, uniting the Old Settlers and Eastern Immigrant Cherokees into a single Cherokee Nation government once again.
The Cherokee Flag contains the Cherokee Nation seal (see the question above for the full symbolism of the seal) in the middle with seven stars in the outer field along with a single, black star. The seven stars in the outer field represent the seven clans, and the one additional star, which is black, is to remember those who died as a result of the Trail of Tears.
In addition to the Cherokee in my history, the "white" part of this particular branch of my family has been in the United States since before it was the United States! So, there you have it! The colors of my country and what "Origins" means to me!
